China's first trial 5G wireless network on a college campus has been established in the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), located in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, China Mobile announced on February 20, 2019.

Test data shows that the 5G network is able to provide a peak single-user download speed of 1.6 Gbps, nearly 16 times faster than that of 4G service, which will enable applications of technologies such as online distant learning featuring augmented reality and virtual reality, as well as campus patrolling with night-vision drones.

In 2019, China Mobile will invest 1 billion yuan to build 2,000 5G base stations in Hubei, covering key areas such as the 7th Military World Games venues.
