On April 16, the Badminton Test Event for the 7th CISM World Games (CISM WG) opened at Zall Gymnasium in Wuhan University. 112 people from seven teams across the country participated in the competition.

During the four-day event, seven delegations from Fujian, Jiangxi, Anhui, Hunan, Hubei, Bayi and Wuhan University will compete with each other in 7 disciplines, namely, Men’s Teams, Women’s Teams, Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Through this Test Event, the Sports Committee will conduct a full-covered testing for the Badminton Sport, involving its whole process and all of its factors, in order to ensure the success of Badminton Competition for the 7th CISM WG.

The latest “Badminton Competition Regulations” approved by the Chinese Badminton Association and the new rules published by the Badminton World Federation were applied. The top eight players in Men’s and Women’s team events and five individual events respectively enter the finals and will be awarded certificates, while the top three will be awarded medals.

The Zall Gymnasium, venue of this event, has a total building area of 37,200 square meters. It can undertake large-scale international competitions for indoor individual sports, and accommodate 8,000 spectators. It is one of the largest on-campus gymnasiums in China, with its main technical standards and function rooms meet the requirements of the CISM Sports Committee.

In the opening match on the first day, Zhao Mengxing, a 17-year-old girl from Hubei Province, defeated Li Xinyi from Anhui province, with the result of 2:0 to get a good start. During this event, Zhao Mengxing will participate in Women’s Teams and Women’s Doubles. “It is quite comfortable to play on this venue”, she said, “This is the venue for the upcoming world-class competition. It feels different. We received a warm reception when we came here yesterday. The service is so great, whether in terms of accommodation, training, or today’s contest.”

In this competition, more than 100 volunteers were selected from Wuhan University to provide volunteer services in reception, guidance, and at venues, etc.

It is reported that the Badminton Test Event for the 7th CISM World Games is hosted by Wuhan Executive Commission and the Chinese Badminton Association, and is undertaken by the Badminton Sport Committee for the 7th CISM WG, Wuhan University and Hubei Badminton Association. 【By WU JIE】
