April 23 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy. A grand naval parade, which is part of the multinational naval events marking the 70th anniversary of the Chinese PLA Navy, was held on April 23 at Qingdao, Shandong province.



Chinese President and Central Military Commission Chairman Xi Jinping reviewed 18 vessels from 13 countries invited to participate in the naval parade on Tuesday afternoon. The foreign vessels in the waters off eastern China's coastal city of Qingdao saluted Xi, who was on board the destroyer Xining, in their traditional manners as they passed by.



During the past seven decades, the Chinese PLA Navy has actively participated in international humanitarian missions and conducted various exchanges with naval forces from other countries in a bid to build mutual understanding and deepen strategic mutual trust.

Cheng Dewei, one of the new spokesmen of the Chinese PLA Navy, debuted at the press conference on April 20 in Qingdao, Shandong province. The fact that he is from Xiantao, Hubei province, makes netizens from Hubei very proud.

Besides Wuhan, 10 other vessels in the Chinese PLA Navy are named after cities in Hubei. They are respectively Xiangyang, Yichang, Huanggang, Huangshi, Jingzhou, Jingmen, Ezhou, Xianning, Xiaogan and Enshi.
