Before the Spring Festival every year, Wuhan citizens will spend several hours waiting in line rain or shine, to buy yuanzi (圆子), also known as fried meatballs, a popular food during the Spring Festival. For them, yuanzi is not only a classic dish of the Chinese New Year's Eve dinner, but also a symbol of a family reunion at the festival.

Besides Huangpi yuanzi which is made of pork, fish meat and vegetables, many other kinds of yuanzi are also bestsellers during the holiday in Wuhan, such as the braised yuanzi in Hanyang, fish balls in Tangxun Lake, Jiangxia, and fish balls in Hannan.
